SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJANA

 

‘SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJANA’ is an Indian Government-backed saving account scheme. This scheme allows the parents of the girl child to make their child’s future bright. Parents can build or save money into this account for their girl child for their future benefits like education, marriage, etc. This scheme is the part of ‘BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO’ yojana. Through this campaign or yojana government of India aims to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls in India.

 

 

MAIN HIGHLIGHTS:

 

  • An account can be opened in the name of a girl child till she attains the age of 10 years.
  • Only one account can be opened in the name of a girl child.
  • The birth certificate of girl child in whose name the account is opened must be submitted.
  • An account can be opened with a minimum of Rs. 250/- and thereafter any amount in multiples of Rs. 100/- can be deposited. A minimum of Rs. 250/- and a maximum of Rs.150000/- must be deposited in a Financial year.
  • From April 2020 sukanya account provides 7.6% interest compounded annually.
  • This account has a tenure of 21 years or until a girl child marries after the age of 18.
  • One withdrawal shall be allowed on attaining the age of 18 years of the account holder to meet education expenses up to 50 % of the balance at the credit of the preceding financial year.
  • The account can be transferred anywhere in India from one post office/bank to another.
  • An account can be opened in Post office and branches of authorized banks.
  • This scheme is also allowed under 80C deductions.
