IMPORTANCE OF FOOD

The food we eat gives the body ‘information’ and materials they need to work properly. If we don’t get the right information, our metabolic process suffers, and our health declines.

If we get too much of food that gives wrong instruction, we can become overweight, undernourished, and at risk of diseased conditions such as Diabetes, Cardiac arrest, etc.

In short, what we eat is central to our health.

IMPACT OF FOOD WASTAGE

“There are many people in the world, who are so hungry that even God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread”, said Mahatma Gandhi.

There was a time in India when the Green Revolution was started in 1968 by M.S.Swaminathan but time has come when there is a need to save food from its wastage.

I believe that there will be a need of another Green Revolution to feed the world’s population by 2050, because of the rapidly increasing funds of wasting food in India and abroad. As per the year 2019, people in the united states throw around 6,180 pounds of food worth more than 7400 dollars which includes the food that has been spoiled in refrigerators and rotting of food grains as well as food that is thrown after being cooked. A lot of food grains wasted in India due to lack of improper storage facilities and mainly due to rainfall.

Few basic reasons of this wastage are that in most of the public places in India and abroad there is an improper storage facility of grains whether during transportation or at home from pests.

PREVENTION OF FOOD WASTAGE

THERE ARE 4 WAYS TO SAVE FOOD FROM WASTAGE

1.SHOP SMART

Doing shopping together, is what every family enjoy. But doing it smartly is better to do. Decide what you need in your kitchen and buy as necessary. Don’t fill your cart with unwanted products meals and buy as planned.

2.STORE FOOD

Storing food is another way to save but, that doesn’t mean to overcook your food and keep it stored for a longer time. Cook food as much required and eat within 2-3 hours.

3.PRESERVATION

Preserving food prevents the growth of micro-organisms (such as yeast). You can store the meal for years and enjoy it in all seasons. As it can be stored easily without being spoiled it can be transported and anyone can eat it in any location.

4.EATING LEFTOVERS

Eat as much your hunger says, don’t overeat. Don’t fill your plate more than you can feed yourself, eat as much you can otherwise leaving food in plate leads to wastage. So, have a habit of eating leftovers.
